With approximately 275 stores, 50 restaurants and more than 4,500 parking spaces in a total of 521,000 m2 (5,610,000 square feet), Ibn Battuta is the largest themed shopping center in the world. On 26 May 2013, Nakheel announced the tender for the expansion of Ibn Battuta Mall – a new 28,000 m2 (300,000 sq ft) shopping center for an additional 150 stores. This expansion introduced new stores to the mall, such as Decathlon, Brands for Less, and includes a new food court in the upgraded metro link. The shopping center contains several activities such as a trampoline park, a light exhibition, the Carrefour hypermarket and a 21-screen cinema hall from Novo cinemas.
The mall consists of six courts, each of which is inspired by some of the countries visited by the Moroccan Berber explorer Ibn Battuta: the court of Andalusia, the court of China, the court of Egypt, the court of India , the court of Persia and the court of Tunisia. The Court of India displays a working reproduction of an elephant clock.
The mall is located next to The Gardens area, as well as close to Delhi Private School and Winchester School. Thus, the mall is frequently visited by residents as well as students. The eponymous Ibn Battuta metro station of the Dubai Metro provides access from central Dubai?
