Introduction to Home Wildfire Defense
The USGBC California Wildfire Defense Education and Tours program aims to raise awareness by offering topic-specific resource guides and expert advice. This initiative allows our community, owners, designers and managers to take proactive steps to reduce wildfire risk and minimize associated losses.

The increase in fire seasons has serious, even potentially fatal, consequences. There are concrete steps everyone can take to protect their properties, mitigate fire risks in the region, and strengthen the city's resilience. Architects, builders, developers, urban planners and landscapers all have crucial roles to fulfill.

Speaker

Elizabeth graduated from Temple University with a degree in environmental studies. Elizabeth worked under the direction of Joanne Donahue, land restoration manager at the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education, growing native plants and removing invasive species from Penn's Native Acre. Elizabeth also designed and installed an educational sensory garden for students. Elizabeth also worked in the West End of outdoor horticulture at Longwood Gardens, where she oversaw the orchard, migratory bird sanctuary, vegetable garden, idea garden, trial garden and garden of children.

Since moving to California, Elizabeth has been responsible for the Eco Urban Gardens program. She developed and implemented the Farm to Table and Farm to School programs. Elizabeth combines her passion for regenerative landscape and urban design with community health impact and environmental justice. She holds a Docent Naturalist certification from the Eaton Canyon Nature Center and has volunteered with the Los Angeles County Arboretum and the California Native Plant Society.
