Here's how I repaired two of my own Lightning cables, using things I had in my kitchen: 99% isopropyl alcohol, vinegar, a cloth, and cotton swabs.
If your Lightning cable is misbehaving, I hope this works for you too!
** CLEANING LIGHTNING CABLES **
———
* Q-tip with 99% isopropyl alcohol ("IPA/") or "Goo Gone", if you have it
*Dry clean with a cloth or similar
*Soak in 5% vinegar for up to one hour, check occasionally
*Dry clean again
———
That's it!
