TRADITIONAL IRISH BARMBRACK RECIPE | IRISH TEA BREAD | BÁIRÍN BREAC

We’ve rounded up our favourite Irish cake recipes for you to try with everything from traditional Irish cakes like fruit-packed barm brack porter cake and succulent apple cake to more recent additions like boozy Irish coffee cake. But we didn’t stop there; we also took the liberty of including a few cake recipes made with Baileys® Irish cream Guinness® and Irish whiskey for craic! Why wouldn’t you? Sláinte!

This not-too-sweet traditional Irish cake is lightly spiced with cinnamon and has a core of thinly sliced apples. For best results use firm eating apples such as Granny Smiths so that the slices remain firm. Serve warm with piping hot custard for a cozy autumnal dessert or dust the finished cake with icing sugar and serve cold with tea.

Barmbrack is an easy dark fruit cake that involves steeping dried fruit in strong black tea. Traditionally served at Halloween in Ireland items such as a ring to announce an upcoming wedding would be wrapped in paper and baked into the cake for one lucky person to find in their slice! No butter is required for the recipe itself but it is worth spreading on each slice. Try adding a few tablespoons of marmalade for a citrusy twist.
