This not-too-sweet traditional Irish cake is lightly spiced with cinnamon and has a core of thinly sliced apples. Barmbrack is an easy dark fruit cake that involves steeping dried fruit in strong black tea. Traditionally served at Halloween in Ireland items such as a ring to announce an upcoming wedding would be wrapped in paper and baked into the cake for one lucky person to find in their slice! No butter is required for the recipe itself but it is worth spreading on each slice. Try adding a few tablespoons of marmalade for a citrusy twist.
