Israel expands its military operations in central and western Rafah.
The military claims to have full control of the border area with Egypt, known as the Philadelphia Corridor.
The area stretches 14 kilometers and is intended to be a demilitarized buffer zone, running along the border between Gaza and Egypt.

Al Jazeera's Hani Mahmoud has the latest from Deir el-Balah, in central Gaza.

Tamer Qarmout, assistant professor of public policy at the Doha Institute of Advanced Studies, spoke to Al Jazeera about the Israeli military's recent announcement that it had taken control of the Philadelphia corridor.

He said the move signals a "red line" for the Egyptian government, adding that he is concerned about the impact it will have on the Camp David peace agreement with Israel.
