Israeli forces illegally dropped white phosphorous munitions on densely populated residential areas in southern Lebanon, according to a new report from Human Rights Watch. White phosphorus, which poses a high risk of excruciating burns and lifelong suffering, has been dropped by Israel on at least 17 municipalities in Lebanon since October 2023. Lebanon's Ministry of Public Health says at least 173 people have been injured in white phosphorus attacks, which also caused hundreds of forest fires in Lebanon. /“It can burn to the bone and cause permanent suffering/,” says Ramzi Kaiss, a researcher at Human Rights Watch. /"This widespread use puts civilians at risk and also contributes to displacement./"
