How to Make the Kamikaze Shot – Best Drink Recipes

The kamikaze shooter is one of the most popular vodka shots to order at a bar. It’s made with a simple mix of vodka orange liqueur triple sec and lime juice. It’s slightly sweet with a hint of sour and is a lot of fun at parties. Best of all this tasty drink is easy to make at home and you can shake up a round in no time.

The kamikaze is said to have been developed in Japan at a U.S. naval base sometime after World War II. It is believed that the drink was named after Japanese kamikaze bombers. When vodka became the drink of choice for many drinkers in the 1970s and 1980s the shot became a staple in American bars and remains a favorite today. There are also colorful kamikazes and quick ways to give it a flavor boost. The shot even inspired the popular kamikaze cocktail which is essentially the same drink in a cocktail glass with more lime juice.

“There were two shooters that bartenders in the early 2000s had to know about: the Lemon Drop and the Kamikaze. Although they differ only in the use of lemon or lime juice they are deliciously different. The Kamikaze shooter is a tart tangy drink that’s so good you might as well make a whole one.” —Sean Johnson
