There’s a small carefully curated bookstore on a northwest corner of San Francisco’s Potrero Hill neighborhood. I arrived a few minutes early for a nearby lunch and couldn’t resist popping in. Five minutes later I walked out with Lunch at the Shop: The Art and Practice of the Midday Meal . It’s an inspired book by Peter Miller a longtime Seattle bookstore owner that celebrates the simple pleasures of eating and appreciating (what I consider) a good lunch. The emphasis is firmly on food that’s simple fresh thoughtful and often shared. In other words lunch doesn’t have to be complicated or elaborate to be meaningful.
