Amazingly Delicious Martha Washington Candy

Martha Washington candies get their name from the candy company that created them. They were sold in stores across the U.S. in the 1920s. When the Depression hit the country most of those stores closed eventually disappearing altogether in the 1940s. But this beloved candy survived and has been passed down from generation to generation.

The filling is made with sweetened condensed milk flaked coconut pecans and powdered sugar and is covered with semisweet or milk chocolate. Some versions of this recipe include drained and chopped maraschino cherries. This particular recipe makes 110 small candies but can easily be halved. Martha Washington candies make great gifts for the holidays or for any occasion.

"These hand-dipped chocolates are absolutely beautiful and so impressive to give as a gift. The filling remained pleasantly soft and chewy even after cooling. I plan to freeze a few to serve for the holidays." —Diana Andrews
