In this video, you will learn how to mount an ISO file or CD image file as a virtual drive.

An ISO or IMG file, also called a disk image, is simply a copy of an entire CD/DVD. Many software programs are distributed as ISO files. When you mount an ISO file, it will be added as a CD/DVD drive on your PC. You can burn an ISO file directly to a CD/DVD, but editing is obviously much faster and recommended.

If you have Windows 10 operating system, you can natively mount the ISO without third-party software by simply double-clicking or right-clicking and selecting Open. Choose Windows Explorer if it offers several options and as you can see the ISO has now been mounted as a virtual drive.

Alternatively, if you have an older version of Windows, download a free third-party utility called WinCDEmu. Go to Google and search for WinCDEmu (I also left a link). Once you have downloaded and installed WinCDEmu, right-click on the ISO or IMG file and choose the /"Select drive letter and mount/" option. You can choose the drive letter or leave it as is. Select "Keep drive after reboot" if you want the ISO file to remain mounted as a drive even after reboot. This is especially useful during installation where the installer needs to access the virtual drive after reboot. I recommend that you keep this option checked.

Unmounting the disk image is simple. Right-click on the mounted drive, select /"Eject/" and just like that, you have unmounted the ISO image.
