On January 11 344 cases of Rizo-López Foods Inc. cotija cheese were recalled due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. And yesterday February 5 the company announced an expanded recall of nearly 60 dairy products. Listeria is a bacterium that can cause serious harm or death in young children the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. It can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said Rizo Lopez Foods products could be a potential source of illness in an ongoing nationwide Listeria outbreak.
