Okay, I know these aren't the most amazing games in the world. But I'm one of those people who really enjoys Dark Pictures games. I think, for what they are, they're pretty good.

But the most recent game, The Devil in Me, does so many things wrong.

There are new traversal mechanics and they work quite well. But the game acts like it's something truly new and revolutionary.

I hope you think climbing is scary, because the majority of the first hour of this "horror" game is spent simply climbing up ledges…in broad daylight.

A simple inventory system is also added. The coolest part is that each of the five characters has a unique item, related to their job, that can help them solve puzzles or survive, in one way or another.

One problem… the game almost never asks you to actually use these tools. It's like the mechanic never really got past the "idea stage" during development, but they pulled it off anyway.

As concepts go, I honestly have no problem with any of the new features. I just wish they were implemented in a way that didn't seem superficial and meaningless.

In the end, they end up seriously scarring what could have been at least one good game in the series.
