Research shows that exercise is not enough to undo the damage of a sedentary lifestyle
It’s no secret that the longer you sit each day the more health problems you’re likely to develop. Sitting too much can shorten your lifespan and increase your chances of developing heart disease insulin resistance and diabetes. And yet about 81% of American adults sit for four or more hours each day and of those people 26% sit for eight or more hours.
Fortunately you don't have to make many changes to your sitting time to experience health benefits according to a new study published in JAMA Network Open.
This study looked at how reducing the amount of time spent sitting affected blood pressure. A total of 283 racially and ethnically mixed participants were included in this study. They had a mean age of 69 and approximately 66% of them were women. Participants were randomly divided into two groups: one group was the intervention group and the other was the control group.
