Twitter is sort of the Wild West of social media. Everything is consolidated into one big feed, and even if you're scrupulous about using lists, some things may still slip through your filters. Twitter lets you mute hashtags and accounts, but imagine my surprise when I discovered you can do that with individual words – and without having to delve into the menu system either.

Thanks to @nonprofWHIT on Twitter for bringing this to my attention. This will likely not only help reduce noise, but also allow users to have more granular control over what they don't want to see on their timeline.
