Using a sharp knife or scissors split each vanilla bean lengthwise leaving 1 inch (2.5 cm) uncut at each end of the bean. Place the split beans in the bottom of a glass jar or bottle. Pour vodka over the beans until they are completely covered. Screw or secure the lid on the jar and shake. Store the jar shaking occasionally in a cool dark place for at least 2 months.
