PEANUTS & COKE taste test

Serious Eats / Max Falkowitz

I had never heard of Coke and peanuts until my friend and die-hard Southerner at large Jed Portman introduced me to them. The idea goes something like this: Open a bottle of Coke (always a bottle but not always Coke if you count the dissidents) take a few swigs to free up some headroom then throw in a shell of salted peanuts. Sip and chew the mess away. It's also good with whiskey.

I’m as Yankee as they come but I know a good idea when I see one and the sugary soda-meets-salty snack mash-up is indeed a good one. Once you accept that the Coke functions as a rootsy molasses-tinged caramel to coat the peanuts in a manner not unlike that northern baseball snack the concept is easier to accept. But my question from last weekend went further: Could the combination make the transition to ice cream?
