I'm Heidi – This site celebrates cooking and aims to help you incorporate the power of lots of vegetables and whole foods into your daily meals. The recipes you'll find here are vegetarian often vegan and written with the home cook in mind. This site has been my online "home base" for almost twenty years. It was originally built on the premise that once you own over 100 cookbooks (raise your hand!) it's time to stop buying and start cooking. This site chronicles a cookbook collection one (vegetarian) recipe at a time. But there's more to the story now that we're a few decades into it here's a little background on me and the site…

I’ve been to Hawaii twice. Once when I was sixteen and again when I was twenty. Once to Maui and once to Kona. I remember it being lush and vibrant achingly beautiful. The more miles you put between yourself and the resort areas the better it got. I think I might want to go back someday so when I realized there was an Edible Hawaiian Islands publication I subscribed in the hopes that I would discover farmers producers markets and restaurants to go to when we finally got around to it. The latest issue arrived the other night and as I was flipping through it I came across a recipe for pineapple rice salad. I rarely cook with Hawaiian flavor profiles but this looked too good to pass up. I had a fair number of ingredients on hand and eventually took the basic concept and turned it into a meal. No cans of water chestnuts or peas but I did have a can of organic pineapple in the back of my cupboard – I must have bought it with baking in mind? I'm not sure. Either way I'm glad I had it. In the end I had a beautiful plate of spicy greens and brown rice drizzled with a tangy-salty-sweet pineapple dressing with a side of seitan. It's delicious warm or at room temperature.
