Pink Squirrel | An easy crème de cacao cocktail | Booze On The Rocks
The Pink Squirrel is a creamy pink cocktail with a tantalizing taste of almond and chocolate. It's cute and adorable but it's not as popular as it once was.
The pink squirrel is said to have originated in a cocktail bar in Milwaukee Wisconsin in the early 1940s. Some compare it to an adult milkshake; in parts of the Midwest it is made with vanilla ice cream. The sweet flavor and pink color made it a very popular cocktail for a few decades. But as we moved beyond the 70s it lost much of its creamy charm.
This is an easy recipe and honestly it may be harder to find crème de noyaux than anything else. This almond-flavored cream liqueur is red in color giving this drink a beautiful pink color. Crème de noyaux is no longer as popular as it was and the Pink Squirrel is one of the few drinks it is used in giving little incentive for drinks manufacturers to produce it.
