Recipe NAgroni (non-alcoholic negroni) 🍸

The Negroni is the ultimate aperitif a spicy refreshing bittersweet summer-in-a-glass cocktail. This alcohol-free version is almost as satisfying as the classic with the balance of vegetal and citrus notes just as good as the original.

How do you counterbalance the character and substance of a true London dry gin the backbone of the classic negroni? Alcoholic spirits have an aftertaste (or lingering aftertaste) that’s not easily matched in non-alcoholic versions. Something drinkable is easy enough – and most of my attempts at light but subtle infusions have been just that – but if you want to feel like you’re drinking a real cocktail you need to figure out that aftertaste.

To create this alcohol-free negroni I needed to find an alternative to gin (our base spirit) that would have both substance and an aftertaste akin to alcohol. Our solution was to combine the restrained but resonant bitterness of Monday’s gin with the grape and fig notes of Ghia’s bittersweet aperitif.
