I'm Heidi – This site celebrates cooking and aims to help you incorporate the power of lots of vegetables and whole foods into your daily meals. The recipes you'll find here are vegetarian often vegan and written with the home cook in mind. This site has been my online "home base" for almost twenty years. It was originally built on the premise that once you own over 100 cookbooks (raise your hand!) it's time to stop buying and start cooking. This site chronicles a cookbook collection one (vegetarian) recipe at a time. But there's more to the story now that we're a few decades into it here's a little background on me and the site…

My parents live an hour south of us in the house where my sister and I grew up. They built on a beautiful piece of land in the suburban foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains in the 70’s when I was four and have lived there ever since. We came together as a family for Easter this year and I think everyone realized that this will probably be our last vacation in Los Gatos. They are moving relatively soon and will probably put the property up for sale sometime in the next few months. On one hand I am happy that they will be starting a new adventure on the other hand I will miss being able to visit the place where I grew up. More than anything I love looking out from their house. It is flanked by a (rare) undeveloped stretch of hilly open space that is a stage for all sorts of old craggy oak trees deer herons and the occasional coyote. In the spring the grass is short and electric green and by late summer it is waist-length and a light straw color. From their kitchen window you can see the details of the day: every car passing through the street every neighbor walking their dog the neighborhood cats hunting in the distance the postman delivering letters.
