Dark and Stormy Rum Cocktail Recipe
Serious Mealtimes / Vicky Wasik
A Dark and Stormy is made with Gosling's rum ginger beer and lime so the idea here is to play loosely with those flavours in the form of a mint julep. The result has the rich round sweet base flavours of rum and maple syrup the freshness of the mint and then that zesty spiciness of the ginger which wakes it all up and brings the sweetness into focus.
Mash ginger in a julep or tall glass over ice until well crushed and juices run out. Add mint leaves and maple syrup and muddle until mint is lightly bruised then brush the sides of the glass with the aromatic oils of the mint. Add rum and stir well. Fill glass half full with crushed ice and stir until combined. Fill glass to the top with crushed ice and stir until the outside of the glass is frosted. Add more crushed ice and garnish with sprigs of fresh mint. Serve with a short straw if desired so that the aroma of the mint bouquet greets the drinker with every sip.
