I’m back at Fleisher’s the butcher shop where I interned in Kingston NY. Last week was unusual in a few ways. When I arrived on Tuesday there were a handful of handsome muscular men slicing beef around the main table and not a single woman in sight. Why so handsome and muscular? It must be the organic grass-fed beef they eat all the time. Women are a minority at Fleisher’s anyway but it takes an all-male staff to make a woman look out of place. When I put on a metal apron a mesh apron that covered your entire front I felt more at ease.
