How to Make Tostada Shells (Baked or Fried!)

This recipe for baked crispy tostada shells is an easy way to make the base for tostadas or taco salads in the oven. Instead of frying flour or corn tortillas they’re baked making them better for you and easier to make. (There’s a lot less mess than if you baked them first.)

Start with your favorite ready-made flour or corn tortillas (your choice) and all you have to do is brush them with some oil salt and spices to taste and pop them in the oven. You will need to keep an eye on the tortillas while they are cooking as you don't want them to get too brown or burn.

Use these shells for the obvious tostadas but also for serving a Tex-Mex style salad. Add some green avocados and cubes of cheddar colby or pepper jack cheese and top with a ranch salad dressing made with chopped jalapeños and diced red peppers.
