Ree Drummond's 20 Best Summer Recipe Videos | The Pioneer Woman | Food Network

Anyone familiar with the Pioneer Woman knows that she’s written quite a few cookbooks. Since 2009 Drummond has published recipes for all sorts of comforting dishes. From her signature potato salad to her signature cinnamon toast her creations are suitable for gatherings with friends and family or when you need a quick bite to eat. But when Drummond wants to get creative in the kitchen and whip up something new she’ll likely turn to a recipe book written by a friend or fellow TV star. In an interview with Garden & Gun discussing “The Pioneer Woman: Dinner’s Ready!” due in stores in October 2023 she highlighted some of her favorite cookbooks — not including her own. Here are The Pioneer Woman’s personal picks.

For many home cooks part of the joy of spending time in the kitchen is as much about community as it is about good food. Even if you can’t cook with or for others perhaps because of distance creating dishes inspired and loved by friends is special in itself. This is one (surely many) reason why some of Ree Drummond’s favorite cookbooks are written by the fellow foodies she holds dearest. She told Garden & Gun “I love the cookbooks of my friends: Gaby Dalkin Maria Lichty Deb Perelman Joy Wilson ; I feel like I’m hanging out with them when I’m making their recipes.” Even though each of Drummond’s friends lives in a different state their published culinary creations provide a comforting and tasty way to stay connected.

Dalkin's five cookbooks including "Absolutely Avocados" which is devoted entirely to the fruit are filled with recipes for California-inspired dishes. Lichty's first cookbook "Two Peas & Their Pod" shares kid-approved recipes from her family kitchen; Drummond even gave it a glowing review on Lichty's eponymous food blog. Perelman has published three cookbooks and both her debut ("The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook") and her latest ("Smitten Kitchen Keepers") have earned spots on the NYT bestseller list. Finally Wilson's three cookbooks (and magazine) revolve primarily around baked goods though "Over Easy" covers all things brunch. Between all the cookbooks from her friends Drummond is well-versed in whipping up a table full of dishes from breakfast to dessert.
