Yoga Put to the Test for Depression Anxiety and Urinary Incontinence
If you’re of a certain age or have given birth chances are your bladder isn’t always cooperating. Urinary incontinence also known as bladder leakage is a common condition that affects up to 60% of adult women in the U.S. That’s why you see all those ads and advertisements for absorbent underwear.
But despite the similarities Leslee Subak MD chief of the division of obstetrics and gynecology at Stanford Medicine and co-author of a new study published August 27 2024 in Annals of Internal Medicine says urinary incontinence (UI) doesn't have to be a normal part of aging.
"Part of the problem is that incontinence is stigmatized — we don't talk about it" Subak said in a Stanford Medicine news release. "Or we hear folklore that this is normal as you get older. In fact it's very common but it's not inevitable and we have very effective ways to treat it."
