Simply a Manhattan made with Scotch whisky the Rob Roy has been offering it for over a century. It’s mixed everywhere from craft cocktail bars to the beer-and-a-shot joint down the street and it works equally well in both types of establishments.
While it's certainly possible to screw this one up it's such a simple formula that even the most distracted bartender could come up with something approachable with a little attention to detail. Make sure you use a decent blended Scotch – Famous Grouse is a good affordable blend or you could aim for one of the higher-shelf ones (Johnnie Walker Black Chivas Regal etc.) if your wallet allows.
