I'm Heidi – This site celebrates cooking and aims to help you incorporate the power of lots of vegetables and whole foods into your daily meals. The recipes you'll find here are vegetarian often vegan and written with the home cook in mind. This site has been my online "home base" for almost twenty years. It was originally built on the premise that once you own over 100 cookbooks (raise your hand!) it's time to stop buying and start cooking. This site chronicles a cookbook collection one (vegetarian) recipe at a time. But there's more to the story now that we're a few decades into it here's a little background on me and the site…

Do you all have piles of *really important stuff*? Bills notes magazine clippings that sort of thing? I do but inevitably the most important documents get lost in the depths of the piles. Unfortunately I’ve taken to taping things to the walls of my house. It’s a last-ditch effort to keep important things in my line of sight. Any flat surface is fair game – walls cabinets doors. I regularly go through the piles grabbing the most urgent items from that pile and taping them to the wall. Sometimes I find real gems! For example I was going through my kitchen pile the other day and found a note to myself with a recipe to try. The note simply said: soak large mushrooms in sake dust with rice flour sauté with salt add a dot of miso butter. Bruce Cole via Hank Shaw. I don’t remember if I saw it on Bruce’s Instagram feed (probably) but it sounded like a great idea.
