Serving wine at the right temperature is about as important to the enjoyment of drinking it as proper storage and handling. Wine served too cold will not develop its full bouquet but will also "cover up" some minor imperfections. Wine served too warm will allow the taste of the alcohol to overpower the taste and bouquet of the wine.

What is the right temperature to serve wine?

If wine is served too warm the alcohol flavor will overpower the taste and bouquet of the wine.

Of course the temperature at which wine is served often depends on one's personal preference but there are a few general guidelines that should be followed to ensure the wine reaches its full potential.

Keep in mind that the instruction "serve at room temperature" refers to the cellar temperature rather than your normal living room. Also it is safer to serve wine slightly cooler as it warms up very quickly in the glass.
