Decades ago I was more than jealous. Today I am more than grateful for the bond Julia built with a temporary receptionist at the hospital.

They don't call jealousy "the green-eyed monster" for nothing. I should know. I was once incredibly jealous of my now husband Charlie because he took Julia Child shopping for "green things". I mean the one and only Julia Child. Of the two of us I'm the cook. And although I've met her a few times Charlie was her fruit and veg buddy! I hardly need to tell you… THAT'S NOT FAIR.

Let me go back in time and explain.

A year or two before we met in 1978 Charlie was working as a temp at the front desk of the Robert B. Brigham Hospital for Incurables. As you can imagine from the name they cared for people who were seriously ill and had been in the hospital for long periods of time. And every Wednesday a very tall woman with a distinctive whistled voice would come to the hospital to visit the patients who were staying there. Charlie recognized the famous "French chef" right away. He introduced himself and began a very friendly weekly friendship at work.
