Condensation inside windows and doors occurs when warm air comes into contact with cold glass. The unsightly sight of condensation on your windows or patio doors can drive anyone crazy. Fortunately, there are creative ways to hide or help remove condensation from your windows or patio doors.

Try using a dehumidifier. Place it next to the window inside the house. This will slowly eliminate any excess moisture between the 2 panes. If you have portable humidifiers in your home, turn them off! Humidifiers are designed to add more moisture to the air in your home, so they will cause more condensation on your windows.

Install weather stripping. This will prevent cold air from blowing in and cool the walls and windows. Not only will weather stripping save you money on your energy bills, it will also stop condensation.

Open the curtains. Opening curtains and drapes will allow air to flow against the windows, which will dry out moisture on the windows and prevent condensation from forming. The best time to open windows and curtains is on sunny days, when heat and sunlight dry out moisture and help prevent condensation.

Use fans to move air. Pedestal, oscillating, and ceiling fans are all great for circulating air in your home. Not only will they help reduce humidity, but they will also distribute warm air more evenly in winter and provide a cooling breeze in summer. In summer, ceiling fans should rotate counterclockwise. In winter, turn on fans so they spin clockwise and circulate heat more efficiently. Regulating the air temperature will help reduce condensation.
