This cherry pudding is best served warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. It is also delicious when cooled to room temperature. Plan to make it if it will be eaten within 36 hours. The soft cake portion can go stale after this point. I usually make it for guests or as a sharing dish. Prep time does not include pitting the cherries.
