There’s a new Spam flavor out now and it’s perfect for adding to Asian-inspired dishes like rice bowls and musubi. Spam Korean BBQ Flavored is available exclusively at Walmart bringing the brand’s total number of varieties to 12. The Korean BBQ flavor joins Spam Maple Flavored as the most recent addition to the Spam family and based on how much I enjoyed the flavors of the maple variety I was excited to try the Korean BBQ version.

“Spam Korean BBQ Flavored is a nod to the Spam brand’s relationship with Korean food culture and continued celebration of global flavors” said Jennesa Kinscher senior brand manager for the Spam brand in a press release. “This new variety not only delivers on the comfort and nostalgia that our current fans crave but also attracts new fans eager to try the sweet and spicy flavors that the Korean BBQ dish and experience offers.”

Hormel Foods says Spam has been a "staple of Korean customs around the world" since the Korean War and that in the 1950s Spam was often included in Korean budae jjigae also known as "army stew." To celebrate its latest twist Spam teamed up with celebrity chef Esther Choi who spoke to Allrecipes about her lifelong love affair with Spam.
