Whatever the origins and no one knows for sure it is generally accepted that hot toddies are warming winter beverages. Toddy lovers drink them simply because they are a pleasantly sweet and aromatic drink.

The drink can be made with hot water apple cider or as in this recipe black tea. But the hot toddy is pleasant and when we have a little chill in the air sipping on something tasty can help you feel just a little bit better.

"This was a lovely warming spicy drink. I used all the optional flavourings which I found really enhanced the tea. You can sweeten it as much as you like with honey. I used whisky for the liqueur as I love the smell." —Diana Andrews
