The abundance of homegrown citrus this time of year in Los Angeles is one of the main reasons I love being a Californian. You see Meyer lemon trees groaning with yellow orbs in your front yard. Pomelos and grapefruits line your driveways and trees impossibly heavy with oranges regularly deserve a second look. Being surrounded by so much citrus makes you happy. Especially when you can get your hands on it. And I did. My dad’s neighbors recently generously dropped off a large crate of Meyer mandarins oranges and Eureka lemons—a real “bend at the knees” box. So here I am chronicling the ways I’ve been preserving it and the citrus recipes I’ve been making all week.
