Since 2002, Texas State University's Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) program has been used to train law enforcement officers across the country on how to respond quickly to dangerous situations active threat. Over the years, we have seen response times shorten and law enforcement capabilities increase. Due to increased public awareness, many citizens are wondering what individuals can do to protect themselves and reduce the dangers faced during one of these events. Avoid Deny Defend was developed as an easy-to-remember method that individuals can follow. As we have seen, hiding and hoping is not a very effective strategy.
