Most people experience some form of intestinal discomfort but how do you know if you have a specific condition such as irritable bowel syndrome? Statistics show that approximately 10% to 15% of Americans suffer from IBS and that this affects almost twice as many women as men. So if you find yourself having to go to the bathroom more often than you want to or if you feel pain when you “go” it could be IBS.

So what exactly is IBS? No one knows what causes it but it’s a problem with the large intestine that results in abdominal pain cramping bloating and changes in bowel movements. IBS can be painful and frustrating to live with but the good news is that it doesn’t harm your body. And even more good news: Many people find relief from IBS symptoms by making changes to their diet and focusing on stress management.
