With the first sip of this Thai tom yum soup you will be overwhelmed by the heady flavours of lemongrass garlic lime coconut milk and chilli combined with a chicken stock base and topped off with prawns. If you like it spicy we recommend using fresh red chillies or buying a bottle of chilli oil and adding anywhere from a few drops to a few teaspoons. Or leave out the chilli for a great mild tom yum.

Tom Yum Soup (Thai Tom Yum Goong)
Serve tom yum soup as is for a flavorful appetizer or with steamed white rice or sticky rice as a main course. You can put some rice in a bowl and serve the soup on top or serve the rice on the side.

"This soup was a winner. I ended up adding extra fish sauce and coconut milk and the broth was delicious. Makrut lime leaves are hard to find but you may be able to find a source online. I used fresh bay leaves but I plan to find makrut lime leaves the next time I make it." —Diana Rattray
