Eating seasonally is one of the many ways to eat that is good for your body and the planet. But what does “eating seasonally” actually mean? In short fruits and vegetables grow in different climates and therefore have different seasons in which they thrive. For this reason produce that is in season is the tastiest and most nutritious.
As spring temperatures creep up and the ground begins to thaw a variety of new plants begin to poke through the soil to begin a new growing season. This makes spring a great time to take advantage of what nature has to offer. Additionally seasonal produce is usually easier to find locally which can help save the resources needed to ship produce across the country or internationally. Produce that is locally produced and in season is also likely to be on sale at your grocery store because it is more readily available.
