You might think that buying pre-cut foods—like spiral-cut diced or perfectly grated fruits and vegetables—has nothing but benefits. But there are a few downsides to buying pre-cut produce: added grocery costs shorter shelf life loss of nutritional value and even the potential for cross-contamination.

But let’s face it sometimes saving time in the kitchen is worth a little extra expense. Plus if buying pre-cut veggies helps you eat more fruits and veggies it’s probably a good habit at least for a while. There are also some fruits and veggies that are worth buying pre-cut because they’re such a pain to prepare — looking at you fresh coconut and pumpkin.
