There are few dishes that I can say taste nearly as good from a can as they do from scratch but tomato soup is one of them. Nostalgia just wafts through a bowl of tomato soup especially when paired with a hot gooey grilled cheese. Many people will say that they crave soup in the winter but tomato soup is one that is welcome year-round. It’s easy to say that there’s only one brand that most people think of when it comes to tomato soup but when you head to the soup aisle there are a lot of options especially when you look beyond the can and into the cartons of soup available. To select the best we tried 13 types of tomato soup and found the one that was the best.

All tomato soups were tasted hot and blind i.e. tasters did not know which type of soup belonged to which brand. The soups were prepared according to the instructions on the package or can. And despite the fact that we wanted to dip a grilled cheese in the soups we tried them ourselves. Soups were judged on texture and taste by 5 people both young and (kind of) old.
