The genius way to shell corn without the mess!
The fir eats / Bahareh Niati
While I can’t get enough of sweet corn in the summer I don’t particularly enjoy the process of husking it. It’s an undeniably messy job and unless you do it outside stray corn tassels seem to get everywhere (and it’s nearly impossible to get them all out from between the kernels). It’s one of those minor annoyances I used to have to put up with in exchange for corn on the cob. What’s changed? I’ve learned the best trick for mess-free fresh-husked corn.
Whenever cookbook author and recipe developer Julia Turshen posts a cooking tip or trick I listen: She’s always full of clever ideas for saving time. And the latest one she shared on Instagram is a total knockout. In the video Turshen demonstrates how to shuck corn using just a microwave and a knife. She uses the caption to explain the details further (and notes where she learned the tip from Adams Fairacre Farms in the Hudson Valley). Here’s how to do it.
