TRADER JOE'S COOK & REVIEW | STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE RECIPE | RIDICULOUSLY EASY

The hack was shared by an employee at a Trader Joe's in Woodbury Minnesota. The employee changed up the preparation of Trader Joe's vanilla cake mix. There are plenty of great hacks for pre-made cake mix but this one features a novel idea to change the texture of the cake. The resulting brownie-style butter cake hack is the perfect shortcut to making a strawberry shortcake base. After testing out the Trader Joe's the staff noted that the hacked cake might actually be better than the regular cake. There is some assembly required but using the pre-made ingredients from Trader Joe's is another time-saver. This hack makes a dense chewy cake that is perfect for topping with ripe strawberries and cream.

Start by making the Trader Joe's vanilla cake mix according to the directions on the back of the package with one change. Instead of adding milk leave it out. Follow the rest of the directions just as you would if you were making the cake the regular way. The texture of the dessert is denser than traditional cake. It's still chewy but has nice firm edges. The Trader Joe's employees who tested the hack and shared the results on the podcast compared it to a butter cake or brownie.

Traditional strawberry shortcake calls for strawberries and whipped cream so this hack uses the same ingredients to create that iconic strawberry shortcake flavor. But instead of whipping fresh cream by hand it calls for canned whipped cream. All you have to do is mix everything together and add as much strawberries or whipped cream as you like. Top the hacked cake with the berries and cream and sprinkle a little sugar on top for some extra flair. Slice the cake like you would a brownie and enjoy!
