This wasn’t our first time going to Kauai. We actually went last year. I don’t think I’ve ever really talked about it on the blog. It was only three weeks after we lost our son Afton and it was with my parents and we had already bought our tickets when our whole world fell apart. I was supposed to go to Hawaii when I was almost 30 weeks pregnant but instead I was recovering from major surgery and had a lifelong heartbreak that was irreparable.
I always hesitate to use the word “healing” because while that trip helped me find some color in my life a trip to Hawaii can never fix what – who – will always be missing in our lives. But those six days of watching the sunset and feeling the calm of the ocean were special and I think healing.
