The Linux history command

This is a quick overview of the history file in Linux. Using the history command, you can see the complete history of your commands. You can also just use the up arrow key to go back through your commands one by one, and you can use the down arrow keys to go the other way (if you've already used the down arrow key up to access a particular command).

There are two other ways to get your history. The first is to use the exclamation point followed by a character or string, which allows you to extract the last command you typed that begins with that character or string. So if I recently typed /"man grep/
