Freshly baked cookies are an iconic sweet treat. They’re always a fan favorite on any dessert table but the downside is that making homemade cookies can take a little more time and skill than you might have. Store-bought cookies are sometimes just easier but you can usually taste the difference — unless you use a simple oven trick.

The next time you’re in a hurry to make dessert and reach for the store-bought cookies know that you can make them taste fresh by popping them in the oven for about a minute. Everyone loves warm cookies and while microwaving them may make them soggy warming them in the oven helps preserve their texture; plus if you leave them in for just a minute you won’t have to worry about them overcooking. It’s just enough time to give them that fresh-out-of-the-oven feeling: chewy on the outside but soft in the middle with gooey chocolate chips.

There’s no need to adjust the oven temperature; a standard 350 degrees Fahrenheit is fine. Depending on the thickness of the cookies they may need a little more time to heat up so check them after a minute and heat them longer if necessary.

If possible buy the cookies from the bakery section of your local grocery store rather than the packaged cookies on the store shelves. Bakery cookies are usually made that morning or the day before (and often have a date on the package indicating this) so they should still taste fairly fresh; reheating them gives them that extra touch.
