For as long as I can remember I’ve always been drawn to smoothies with a red tint. Maybe it’s some kind of Eve-esque subliminal thing but when I see that ruby red color my brain reads it as “you’re about to drink something extra delicious.” So I figured the more red berries the better right?
That’s right! This smoothie features both frozen strawberries and frozen raspberries which add a sweet tangy note along with that all-important redness. Ever since our own Carolyn Cope declared dates the queen of smoothie sweeteners I’ve been wanting to use them in a recipe and this seemed like the perfect time to try them out. Dates always remind me of California which in turn reminds me of avocado so I was going to use them to add some creaminess (and no you won’t taste the avocado—it’s pretty much overshadowed by the berries). Almond milk was my liquid of choice and with a quick dose of honey for sweetness I had a rich thick smoothie that the moms and dads would be proud of.
