Well, the first thing you need to know is that Alexa ranks websites based on their popularity. Alexa assigns each website a number and the lower the number, the more popular a site is. 1 being the most popular site on the web.
Ideally, you want your Alexa number to drop, which means you're gaining popularity.
The first thing you can do to increase your Alexa ranking is to install their toolbar. The more users access your site using the Alexa Toolbar, the better you rank.
Second, you can share your content on the social web. The more visitors you have from the social web, the higher your visitor count, which means your Alexa ranking will improve.
Third, whenever you link to other websites, send them an email to let them know you linked to them. In the email, ask them if they can share your content. This will again help you increase your total traffic.
Last but not least, use Ahrefs to see who is linking to your competitors. Email them and literally ask for a link. It's tedious, but it works. This will help increase your referral traffic.
