Love & Best Dishes: How to Make Southern-Style Sweet Tea

Emily Lichty is an editorial intern at Allrecipes for the summer of 2024 and a student at Northwestern University. She’s an avid food writer focused on creating budget recipes and finding the best eats in Chicago New York and Dallas.

Growing up in Texas if there’s one thing I know Southerners take seriously it’s sweet tea. I wouldn’t call myself the ultimate sweet tea lover — an Arnold Palmer is by far my favorite summertime drink — but I know plenty of people who are so devoted to the beverage that they think any restaurant without sweet tea on the menu should be illegal.
