Do you remember where you were the first time you heard “Hollaback Girl”? I was a little kid in third grade jamming in my bright purple bedroom to a song I absolutely should not have been singing at that age. Yet it was only then and there that I realized how important the yellow fruit was not just as a food but as a pop culture icon. (Okay fine I only realized this now for this assignment but I’m sure I thought about it back then too. Maybe.)
From movies to music to our favorite TV shows bananas have made an appearance in our lives in so many ways. So as part of our recent banana-fueled endeavor we’re taking a look back at the best banana moments—both good and not-so-good—in recent pop culture. You know the ones that are so ingrained in our subconscious that we think about them every time we buy a banana at the store. The ones you already know about are on this list! The ones we’ll no doubt tell our grandkids about as we gently rock ourselves back and forth. “Back when I was a kid they used to put pajamas on bananas and run down the stairs with them” and the like.
