Xbox Makes a Handheld for Real Steam Deck Wins Big Prize at Xbox Showcase

/"The future for us in hardware is pretty awesome. The work that the team is doing around different form factors, different ways to play, I'm incredibly excited," Spencer said. /"Today we talked about games… but we will have time to go out and talk more about platforming, and we can't wait to introduce it to you./"

When asked if a hypothetical Xbox handheld would be a dedicated gaming rig where you can play games locally (like a Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch), or a cloud-based handheld , Spencer replied: /"I think being able to play games locally is really important./"

The Steam Deck competition didn't understand the essentials

Lilliputing reports on Adata's XPG Nia prototype, which was showcased at Computex. The unit is the first gaming handheld to date to adopt the Compression Attached Memory Module (CAMM) standard which allows for easily replaceable and upgradeable memory modules, as well as a number of other user-friendly features.

If you read our previous article on the emerging CAMM standard, you know how excited we are about ultra-thin modules that can simply be screwed onto a laptop or portable motherboard. This offers a viable replacement for the now standard soldered LPDDR RAM, which saves space but is incredibly difficult to repair or replace.

The CAMM standard brings the same easy-to-replace design as the older SO-DIMM RAM stick standard, but with a smaller footprint, thermal design, and power consumption specifically designed for portable devices. Reports suggest that the XPG Nia will use the low-power LPCAMM2 version of these RAM modules, which will be easily accessible by lifting the kickstand on the back of the XPG Nia. Along with a standard M.2 2230 slot to add more storage, this should make the new handheld much easier to upgrade than the Steam Deck, which requires some serious hacking to exceed the standard specs.
